Saturday, September 20, 2025 Mark 1:21-26a ESV
Day 3 - Unclean Spirit
“And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath he entered
the synagogue and was teaching. And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean
spirit. And he cried out, ‘What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to
destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.’ But Jesus rebuked
him, saying, ‘Be silent, and come out of him!’ And the unclean spirit, convulsing him
and crying out with a loud voice, came out of him. And they were all
amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, ‘What is this? A new
teaching with authority.” - Mark 1:21, 22-26a ESV
The demonic man immediately was in the synagogue. The man wasn’t in control. I have to wonder if Jesus had something to do with this sudden appearance. Jesus was establishing his authority and power.
I thank God that Jesus has such authority! I am certain the man felt the same way. Yes, even the demons know who Jesus is. A person might think that as part of establishing His authority Jesus would let the demons speak, but no, Jesus silenced them with a word. The people could easily have become a mob, eventually demanding Jesus to overthrow the Romans and be an earthly king. Jesus came to teach, to show us the way, and to save us. That was God’s plan for us. Thank you Jesus!
